Its not about the money, the health care, or the travel. Its about my country being free, and i'd sleep better at night knowing I'm part of those doing something to keep it that way.

Funny, there's a ton of these "blimps" in use today on large FOBs they hold cameras not rockets or a manned M2, sadly =\

The aerostats are small enough, and tethered high enough in the middle of an extensive secure perimiter, that engaging them is not feasible. They fly high enough that you could stand under them and fire a rifle straight up - and the bullet will run out of energy and fall back to earth before striking the blimp. At the same time, they carry cameras that can surveil the area 24/7, day and night - and are integrated with numerous other security and sensor systems. Details are classified, of course.

Except for when an incoming mortar round get's lucky and makes a direct hit on the way down. Actually happened once during my Iraq deployment.

No Torspo, it isn't - it's the US Combat Medical Badge, awarded to medics who have been shot at in combat. The cross is from the Red Cross used to mark medics and medical facilities on the battlefield, the staff, snakes and wings are the Caduceus which represents the medical field, the stretcher is used to evacuate wounded, and the ring of oak leaves denotes honor.

US Army Combat badges - from top to bottom, Combat Infantry Badge (Infantry only), Combat Action Badge (All Soldiers), Combat Medical Badge (Medical Personnel Only)

Seem to be covering for me a lot recently Grunt Medic! Only thing I want to add is that to get the Combat Medical Badge we as medics have to not only be engaged by the enemy, but also "perform medical duties." It's not enough for us to be shot at, we have to provide medical care for the wounded, triage, anything that constitutes "medical duties."
