I STILL haven't gotten my M&P 40C. Ordered & paid for on 10 Dec 12. The gun control scare has many gun manufacturers way backlogged. Police supply stores are low priority anyhow. It's still a good deal especially when gun prices have skyrocketed. I figure I saved about $100 on the gun through a police supply store & maybe another $100 on the extra mag & night sights. The reward for patience is Smith & wesson has improved the trigger & trigger reset on the guns manufactured in 2013. The trigger no longer has that gritty feeling & the reset has a more positive sound & feel at the reset. A few of the old parts were still being used until they ran out of them so if my gun was manufactured after April or May there's no chance of getting one with the old style parts in them.

Meantime I saved some money & bought a full size M&P 40 from a police officer friend of mine. He was issued a new one & bought his old one back at a good price & sold it to me at the same price. $390 with a background check & tax. It, too comes with 3 mags & night sights. I'll be able to use the full size mags in the 40C as well. It'll make concealment a bit more difficult but I'm concealing the full size with no problems & nobody says I have to carry the gun with them in. The standard 10 rounders will be very easy to conceal. I can carry a FS mag as a spare. If I ever get into a firefight that requires using those many rounds I'm living in the wrong place & will also need more pistol marksmanship training, lol. I have a 2 mag holder on my belt, not for the extra ammo but for the extra mags in case of failure.

$390, with the mags and nights for a good second hand M&P 40 is a good price Top! Nicely done bro!!.. As for the new one on the way, it sounds like your collection is growing dude.. As for firefights... I couldn't agree more, leave that to the LEOs bro... anyway, when it comes to LEO firefights.. they rarely use more then a mag and the first 6 rounds are the most important when dealing with multiples.. single bad guy, and the first 2-3 rounds normally end the fight..

That said, if you are CCW, then I would get down to the range... given your background, it would be like riding a bike, once mastered, you never forget!!... That said, clearing the cob webs off still requires some range time though, so enjoy it bro.. the ammo investment is worth it.. especially for CCW carriers..

Got a call from then police supply store a few afternoons ago. My M&P 40C is finally in! I went there immediately to fill in the paperwork & since there's a 48 hour wait for the background check & the store is closed Saturdays I'll pick it up on Monday, 19 Aug. For some reason Smith & Wesson didn't put the night sights on many guns in this shipment so rather than wait I accepted the regular sights & saved $57 in the process. I promptly "invested" that in a new holster. I still want to get an inside the waistband holster but they didn't have too many in stock to select from. There was one that interested me but it fits on 1 1/2" belt & my gun belt is 1 3/4". Thinking about an alternate belt anyhow so this might be the time to get one.

The wait was "only" 8 months & 5 days before it got to the store. It was worth it since I had 2 other carry guns & I saved as much as $200 on the going price on that same gun.

M&P 40C in hand. 300 rounds sent downrange. At first I was mildly disappointed with the trigger but after a couple of mags it smoothed out just fine. I plan on doing a bunch of dry firing. According to everyone I talked to said it would smooth out even more.

I got hits everywhere I pointed the pistol. Now I have to start pointing it more at the target, lol. Seriously it seems the sights are right on. The first 3 rounds were right in the X ring. I won't talk about the other 297, lol. I did most of my shooting at 21' since I want this firearm for self defense. It would be pretty hard to justify any longer shots because the intent of the bad guy threatening any harm to me would be hard to prove in court. The guy who runs the range said he was getting a .40 cal laser "bullet" that would fit inside the chamber to verify the sights versus the dot. He would like to have one for his own use & said he wouldn't mind me using it. Of course I intimated that I wanted to buy a bunch of new things like holsters & laser sights from him but have yet to decide what, lol.

I had sent for a free sample of Glow-On, a phosphorescent paint so I painted the sights with it. The 2.3 ml would probably paint 30 more sets of sights. A 30 second exposure to my LED flashlight lasted for hours. Not real bright toward the end but a lot brighter than they'd be without it & still very usable. Since the front Trijicon night sight on the full size M&P was bad I painted that, too & now it's back up to standard. It matches the rear sight, which is still good, almost exactly in brightness & duration of glow. Unfortunately I didn't shoot the full size. I know that gun is tried & true & was maintained by the police department. I wanted mainly to test the new one for dependability so I feel comfortable carrying it & I can trust it for self defense. That was brought home to me when I heard of a shooting last night 3 blocks away from my home, closer as the crow flies. It's getting close. The victim is in critical condition & it appears to be drug-related.

Now to look for some more range ammo. At a buck apiece I don't want to use my self defense stuff too much. I used enough to prove that it worked in my pistol.

Defense ammo (the good stuff, well constructed JHP, et al) tends to run high - a dollar a round is about normal. Plinking ammo (ball ammo, FMJ) is usually less... somewhere around $20-30 for a box of 50 (depends what caliber, etc).

Glad to hear it finally came in, Top. Please keep us updated on that Glow On. I've been considering it for my 1911.
