Default I Have an other than honorable discharge (OTH) from the marines can i join the army?

I was in the marines and I made some bad choices. Now I want to fix everything and get the oth off my record. Am I eligible to join the army?

You will have to try to get your discharge with a General under Honorable first to be considered inconjunction with a RE-code that is acceptable to get back in. How long have you been discharged?

I was discharged in march of 09'. I had some family issues back home that I brought to the attn. of my ssgt and nothing resulted of that, so I went UA to be with my family. I think about the mistake I made every single day and how selfish it was. I smoked marijuana while I was home in order to get out. My mind was not right at the time and that is not who I am. As soon as I got back in march I applied for jobs. I got one in april an still have the job. I need to do this for myself and my family. I currently cannot find my DD214's but if I recall the RE code might be a 4, not sure of the sep code. Any insight on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Eagle, you should have your DD214 in electronic format. I got my last DD214 in 2008 and there is a copy in my electronic files. I will call the duty station that you were last separated from to explain the situation and perhaps they can direct you to get a copy in which you can get notarized.

Here is where you can request it...

You have to hold on to that document forever devil dog regardless if its an OTH.

Did you get discharged for going AWOL or for smoking Pot? RE4 are usually a done deal, specially right now since we are only doing RE3 and below waviers. Just checked the regulation, we do not take RE4B from the Marines.

I got discharged for the marijuana. Someone told me to try and talk to an alderman or congressman to try and get recommendation letters and it might help. What do you guys think? I am only 19 yrs old and have had clean record my whole life.

so you werent even in the Marines for 2 years? I suggest that you start building a solid work history in the civilian world. Even if its McDonalds. Prove for the next 4 years that you can be reliable and hold a job. Stay out of trouble with the law.

Volunteer for military cadet organizations and perhaps join AmericaCorps or Job Corps.

I dont want to give you the "final" answer, but no congressman can change the policy or regulation, as long as we are following the policy or regulation stating you cannot join, s/he cant do anything to make us let you in...Im gonna say you are done at this point, you have an RE4, no waiver authorized, you smoked pot and went AWOL...go to school, get a job, move one maybe later on you can do something
