    Default Global Response Force

My son was just assigned to the 82nd Airborne and was told his BCT will be replacing another BCT as the Global Response Force. What exactly does this entail and how long does a BCT keep that role?

    Your son didnt tell you?

Anyway, what BCT is he in? 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th?

But it was like when I was at the 101st. We were ready to deploy anywhere in the world in 72 hours. The article says less (18 hours) but logistically we were given 3 days.

Here is a link that you can read.

It seems to be a continuation of what we used to call the Rapid Response Battalion. We had to be packed & ready to load aircraft at a moment's notice. The assignment was rotating. Each batt would be up for a certain length of time & then relieved by another.

Most high-profile combat units have some sort of rapid response team like the 101st as Mr. Q has said & the 75th Rangers. Usaully the main mission of them is to seize an airfield & hold it so aircraft can land & off load soldiers & equipment at which point they may be relieved & on to the next mission or back to a standby rapid response function.

lol its ok TOP. I think the good news for her though is that he is slated to be in a BCT that is not deploying at the moment. I am with the division headquarters of the 82nd here in Afghanistan in which they would be relieved by the 101st this summer.

    Default Thanks!

LOL - did my son tell me??? Do you tell your mama everything?

I was ok with his explanation - "like how the 2nd BCT is in Haiti; we (3rd BCT) are taking over global response. It means I won't be going to Afghanistan any time soon!" until I googled it and then I wasn't so ok about it and thought I'd ask you guys.

Anyway thanks for the link, times two!

I can put it in for a 3rd time just in case you're having a slow day & didn't catch on. That would be about par for the course for my day to continue.
