Chosen Soldier: The Making of a Special Forces Warrior
by Dick Couch follows an SFAS class through the Q course all the way to Robin Sage.

    Pros:
    • Easy read - Mr. Couch (a former Navy SEAL) writes clearly and concisely, and explains any acronyms\etc. that are inevitable in a book about the military
    • Detailed - I haven't read such an in-depth look at the process of turning out Special Forces
    • Looks at both sides - he spends time with both the enlisted and officers going through selection
    • Examines the 18X program - good to see it is turning out soldiers that can successfully complete the course
    Cons:
    • None that I could see. He limited his coverage of certain topics due to classified information, but that can hardly be helped.

I read "Pressure Point" by him. As I recall it was a pretty good book. I think I might have read a few more but that one sticks in my mind.

I believe he was a Naval Academy graduate & an officer with SEAL Team 1. I'm pretty sure he got his start in NavSpecOps with UDT 21 or 22, anyhow an Underwater Demolitions Team. He was a few years after my time but I had heard about him from former teamates.

It sounds like a good read. just curious if the writer mentioned in his book how some teams we're tasked with building contraptions with poles and tires, built to carry a 300lb ammo box and a 400lb drum of water to a undisclosed location and time. All this being done while dealing with sleep deprivation. I guess, I'll have to read it to find out.

or become a member of class 1212..Thanxs, for sharing.
