    Default Army Gear..

I was always under the assumption that anything you would need before a deployment is given to you. I don't know if it was here or on another forum that I read about some guys talking about their favorite gear and things to buy before getting deployed to a/stan or iraq.

What kind of things are purchased and from where?

Personal choice mate.... you get what you need to survive, but from what Im told everbody buys accessories to make life more pleasant.. never on overseas deployment and am out of date on whats used these days... so Ill leave the details to some more recent folks whom know whats new and in use.....

Don't worry about sexy accessories until you get in & get a deployment heads-up. There be enough veteran NCOS who will give you ideas of what is useful, which is contrary to regulations & what is unnecessary.

Some will buy tomahwks or fighting knives. Useful? Maybe. A multi-tool like a Leatherman or Gerber (& a bunch more) could be useful. Find out when you get to that point. I'll depend on what your unit allows you to have.

    A leatherman/gerber is a pretty good investment.

We were issued Leatherman multi-tools before this deployment. Save your money and work with the issued gear. When you get overseas you can order any special kit you decide you have to have - the Post Office delivers in a week or two.

    Those are great, ArmyGirl!

It seemed that it was always the Chairborne Soldier who had the best gear. They work next door to the Supply SGT is probably why. After all - he wants his records to be accurate & up-to-date as much as anyone.

I was with the 101st in Iraq when these comics were coming out. Many were funny as they were true (especially TOCroach and Storyfellar)
