    Default Re-enlistment window

How long is the re-enlistment window?

Mine just started, and the 1SGT is pressuring me to re-enlist now for the no tax bonus, but I wanted to reclass to 25B or 35T. Unfortunately, neither MOS seems to be open right now... So Im saying hell with the no tax bonus and would like to wait for one to open... but Im not sure how long I can wait till my window closes.

I know it used to be open 2 years before & up to the day of your ETS. However it's best to make sure you actually sign the contract in enough time not to get a break in service.

In my case whenever I re-enlisted it was a done deal in a matter of hours but you know the Army - I wouldn't count on it getting done that fast every time.

You need to speak with your retention NCO, he/she can tell you when it will close. The re-up window for the guy's in my unit in Iraq was open for about 6 months, and then if you didn't re-enlist you had to wait another 8 months before the window opened again. And don't let your 1SG pressure you into re-enlisting if you want to change mos's it's, your career not his!

Good Points Rickie Recon!.. Its about whats next for you in your journey... Your 1st Sgt will eventually get over it... that said, be nice, cos he can be your ally or your enemy... and you DONT want him as your enemy...

While the tax-free bonus is a good incentive to reenlist in theatre if you have that option and want to stay in the same MOS - there are a LOT of thing more important than a couple/few thousand dollars. If reclassing is what you're after, then tell your retention NCO so, be prepared to wait it out - and never look back.

    Good luck!
