    Default Attention Signaleers!!

If you got what it takes and want a challenge in the Signal field and want to go SOCOM.

My branch manager sent me this since they are trying to fill a Warrant Officer slot.

http://www.jcuonline.org/ <-click the link for information

    USA: All 25 Series, 94E, 94W, 18E, 24A, 251A, 250N, 92A, 92Y, 91B

The Joint Communications Unit (JCU) offers positions for active duty Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Civilian personnel in a variety of communications, automation, electronics maintenance and logistic specialties. JCU individuals are trained to be communication experts and afforded uncommon opportunities as a member of this unique team.
The Joint Communications Unit is an "Airborne" unit. However, attendance to the US Army Basic Airborne School is voluntary. If you are currently not airborne qualified, you will have the opportunity to attend the US Army Airborne School.
Since we must maintain the highest state of readiness, training encompasses much of our daily routine. Because of our deployment status, unit personnel receive a wide-range of training. This training includes: UHF and SHF satellite systems , LAN, WAN, Servers, Active Directory, Networking, VOIP, VTC, Video Distribution, fiber system installation and advanced tactical communication scenarios on various air, land, and sea platforms.
Due to the nature of JCU's mission-family readiness is of highest priority. The JCU Chain of Command is committed to the overall well being of the entire family of every assigned JCU member.
In addition to readiness training, the unit provides factory training to all technicians. On-going military and civilian training is stressed, keeping us abreast of the latest technology, and continually increasing our mission effectiveness. Every technician is allowed his own personal bench, tools and trains to be the best in the business.
The unit Physical Training (PT) goals standardize a program reflecting on-the-job physical requirements. Ample opportunity is given for members of the unit to train to a high state of physical readiness. Our unique environment requires a high state of physical readiness.
Predominately made up of enlisted personnel, this unit will test your talents daily. The level of responsibility is extremely high, providing you with unique opportunities rarely found in today's Armed Forces.
Some of the fringe benefits include: travel abroad, exposure to other cultures, potential for extra pay, state of the art gym facility, opportunity for MFF training, and be part of a close knit team.
If you are mature, experienced and competent in your specialty, and are prepared to compete for a demanding, yet challenging position in a motivated unit, then complete the application package and return it to the recruiter via E-mail (preferred) or by snail mail.

The Joint Communications Unit has earned the reputation throughout the Department of Defense as "DoD's Finest Communicators." We pride ourselves in our ability to deploy and conduct missions on a variety of platforms including, but not limited to ships, planes, vehicles, and field conditions. If you think you have what it takes to be one of "DoD's Finest Communicators", click "Recruiting" on the Menu Bar above for more information and to download the JCU Application or you may contact the JCU Recruiter at DSN 383-0203, comm (910) 243-0203.

    U.S. military strong-arming IT industry on IPv6

Good article on the push for IPv6. Might as well use this thread for good Signal Corps information.

hey. that sounds really interesting, how much experience do you have to have in order to join? I am still in BCT, home on leave, then I have 25U AIT at Ft. Gordon till about June, 2011. Also, do you have any information about becoming a Warrant Officer, I am thinking about making that a career goal...maybe. Don't know really yet, so information would be cool. Thanks.

Awesome, is there a certain path that has to be taken to go Warrant? I am still in BCT and AIT after, can I go to Warrant OCS after AIT or should I wait till I finish my Bachelors degree? It's in Information Technology/Visual Communication. I think I can change it to be more MOS specific.

It will take at least 5 years until you are eligible to become a warrant officer. Work on your MOS, certs and degree.

    Good luck.

All 25 series should familiar themselves with this DOD directive. Especially bravos.

    http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/c...df/857001m.pdf

Its coming down soon that if you do not have a baseline certification (A+, N+), you will not get elevated privileges on the network. Bottom line, that means you will not be able to do your job!!

Get certified ASAP!! Take advantage of those free government vouchers.

WIESBADEN, Germany — The three skills every soldier learns during basic training are how to shoot, move and communicate. The third of those skills was on the minds of hundreds gathered Monday at Wiesbaden Army Airfield as Col. Bruce T. Crawford took the reins of 5th Signal Command.
The command, with more than 3,000 troops and civilian workers, is the Army’s largest theater signal command and serves as the main network provider for U.S. Army Europe, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command.
“As every warfighter knows, if you’re in the field, if you’re in combat and you don’t have communicators, then you’re just camping, you’re not fighting,” U.S. Army Europe commander, Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, told the crowd.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey G. Smith Jr., commander of 5th Signal since February of 2008, will head to Fort Belvoir, Va., to assume duties as the deputy commanding general for proponency at U.S. Army Cyber Command.
Crawford arrives to 5th Signal from Washington, D.C. where he most recently served as the coordination group director for the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army. Fifth Signal spokesman Kristopher Joseph said Crawford should be promoted to brigadier general in the near future.
“I want to make sure the stakeholders have a say,” said Crawford of the 5th Signal’s future. Crawford said he plans to establish a dialogue soon with the command’s customer base as well as with the 5th Signal soldiers and family members.
The Department of Defense announced in April that Brig. Gen. Robert S. Ferrell would be Smith’s successor at 5th Signal, but Ferrell said that the Department of the Army later decided that he should stay put at AFRICOM, where he serves as director for command, control, communications and computer systems.
