after AIT questions
I leave for basic on April 25, 2011. I'm looking for info on how the moving process works after AIT. How much stuff should I sell/keep. If I'm sent overseas should I just plan to sell all and start fresh, put in storage, or bring with. I am married and have two kids so as you could imagine we have aquired a lot of stuff over the years. Any input on what I should expect and plan for would be appreciated. Would like to be prepared well in advance so the transition is smooth whatever it may be.
The Army will move you stuff, up to a certain weight. The weight depends on both your Rank and whether you are going Overseas of not. You are allowed one move from your Home or Record, so after AIT would be a good time.
As Matt said the Army will move all your stuff (up to a certain weight), if you go over, you pay out of pocket. Dont sell everything, as a PVT you wont have much to buy everything you want/need at first...
My husband and I are in the same boat (I'm married with 3 kids.) We're currently cutting down on our stuff slowly but surely... it's a liberating process!
We are cutting down A LOT, though. We're going from a 1600sq ft home to a 30ft camper- so it's a drastic change for us!
