Default How Do I FInd Out What Ribbons/Medals Family Member Earned?

My Grandfather fought in the Tenth Army Division in WWII. I have a few of his ribbons, but would like to find out a complete list of what he earned. Is there a central site where I can submit a request for info?

    Your help is much appreciated.

You will need a copy of his DD214, you need to read the link below and submit a form SF180. Just remember it will not happen overnight. It could take a year or longer.

    Good luck

Thanks a lot for that! Doubtful I'll find that form, but it's a place to start.

EDIT: Ah, I'll just get my mom to do this stuff, since she is considered next-of-kin. Thank you very much!

If nobody has your grandfathers DD214 try the courthouse wherever he is/ was from. most of us old timers were instructed to have it entered into the records section just in case we ever lost it.

If not just fill out the SF180 and wait for it to show up in the mail.

You can also try the VFW and see if they can help you.

The hell those men went through was outragous! My Grandfather was a Paratrooper and recieved tons of medals and ribons. He was most proud of his 3 purple hearts, yup, THREE. Aparently he was a great target while on his way down (his words). It's really sad that we have lost almost all of our WWII Vets, some really great stories, heart breaking in most instances but an inspiration that is second to none.

Hope you find out all that you are looking for, those medasls and ribbons are a story in themsleves. I LOVE looking over the pictures and the collection of medals from my Grandfather.

Thanks a lot Gbam. So far, so good. I have his separation orders and am filling out the forms now.

My grandfather never talked about his service...to anyone. He was a Tech. Sgt and I dont even know if he saw actual fighting. He was from that old school that just didnt talk about stuff. He didn't talk about life in Ukraine before escaping to America, and he didn't talk about his service.

Once I collect his medals I'll be putting them behind glass.
