Thread: Best Army Posts?

    Default Best Army Posts?

Hey everyone, just a quick word before I begin, I FULLY UNDERSTAND that your duty station is based on the Army's needs. I ask only out of curiousity and the fact that I will need to pick 3 posts in the states, and 3 out of the states.

With that said, I would like to know what are your recommendations for top 3 posts in states, and out of the states posts, with a little description why.

I'm enlisted as a 31b, military police, I'm not too sure where they can be stationed.

A little background, I've lived in the city my whole life, and I enjoy being close to something along the lines of a city.

I'm honestly open to going just about anywhere, but having some recommendations couldn't hurt. The ability to see different places in the world is something I found very appealing when joining the Army.

As far as out of the states goes, I really have my heart set on going to Germany, my dad served over there in the Guard and I've nothing but great things about it.

Thank you for your time answering, as I said, I understand that I most likely will not get any preference, and that is fine with me, just looking for some information.

Fort Carson is at the top of my list, pretty close to some nice things I've heard.

A days drive away from the Grand Canyon and Vegas?

Closer. Soon to be my new home.

I been to the other places I listed except Fort Sam but from all the medical people I talked to; it's an excellent duty station. I like warm weather so perhaps Huachucha is good to.

For me yes. But that is just me. Hood is the biggest post and lots of soldiers.

Of course anything but the hood!!! Everybase is what you make of it, you could love Fort Hood but I would never want to be stationed there or we could both be in Fort Huachuca and I love that place but you could hate it!

Ft Sam Houston is now almost entirely patrolled by Dept. of the Army Civilian Police.

Expect to go to a larger post with combat MP units.

Any post can be a good one - it's what you make of it. That said, most posts tend to be located away from large urban areas, as firing ranges and maneuver areas need lots of open space. Fr. Bliss is near El Paso, though - as long as you don't mind living on the border it's not a bad post. Ft. Hood, Ft. Huachuca, and most of the other large Army posts are somewhat isolated.

Fort Benning has Columbus (not sure I'd call that a good thing), Fort Gordon has Augusta (definitely a good thing).
