    1. I already answered this in the initial post.
    2. Woodland was a far superior camo pattern to the UCP. Not crappy.

Woodland was definitely a good pattern. There are some Soldiers that I STILL can't find, lol.

sorry i wasn't implying that the pattern was crappy but rather the condition of the ones issued to recruits at basic to ruin by hard work and not have to worry about keeping them nice too much. I wasn't sure that the army would issue brand new REALLY EXPENSIVE camo clothing during basic, I'd think it'd be more cost effective not to that's why I asked...

Basic Trainees are issued 4 sets of new ACUs. At the end of BCT they're given the option to DX (Direct Exchange) them for 4 new sets. After that, you have to buy your own (although enlisted Soldiers receive an annual clothing allowance).

    ROFL.. Good one Top!!..

The guys today dont know how easy they have it with DPM.. It used to be Olive Greens and conealment was based on advanced field craft... which I thought a good thing but not for those unable or unwilling to make an effort.. anyway, woodland DPM rocks!!!.. It aids field craft and looks groovy!!..

Aaaand that clothing allowance is about enough to buy 1 set of ACUs per year (which are supposed to be replaced every 6 months.) I used my first one getting my ASUs altered- all $164 of it, lol! My ASUs were awful coming out of BCT- but fixable. I'll not complain; I didn't have to buy them!

That is because if you just came in and this is your first clothing allowance you shouldnt need $500 to replace uniforms, $160 should be enough as you shouldnt need to buy 4 new sets of ACUs, new boots, etc. As time goes on you need to replace more stuff so the allowance increases, I got close to $500 earlier this year and I rarely go out and use it for uniforms, but I know that when i need uniforms I cant say "oh my clothing allowance is not for another 6 months"...i just go out and get it.

they would have given it to the officer corps.- SMA William A. Connelly
