paratrooper and the "Jump Wings"
According to wikipedia ?The United States Parachutist Badge (commonly referred to as "Jump Wings") is awarded to U.S. Armed Forces personnel upon completion of Airborne School regardless of branch or MOS.?
This I knew. What I didn?t know?.
?Military static-line jumps range from 250 to 350 meters (800 to 1,200 ft). Jumpers without equipment are called "Hollywood Jumpers." Jumpers with Rucksack and weapon are called "Combat Equipped", while jumpers only with weapon are referred to as "Combat Light" (Neither should be confused with "Combat Jump").
"Combat Jumps" (into Panama, for example, during Operation Just Cause) are executed at lower altitudes, typically just over 150 meters (500 ft). At such altitudes, the reserve parachute is useless.?
Now the question???
The Parachutist Badge can have bronze stars attached to show number of ?combat jumps? according to the army website I linked bellow. Are these for jumps that are ?combat jumps? like the ones described by wikipedia or are they any kind of jump into a combat zone?
