    Default Future Soldier

    Hello all

I recently enlisted out of NJ as a 35W, and can't wait to head into Ft. Jackson August 9th. I think it's great that I came across this site as it's already helped me a great deal with miscellaneous questions . At 29 I know I decided to enlist a bit later than most, but I know I made a great decision in choosing to serve my country. I'll definitely keep checking in on the boards and keep trying to learn as much as I can.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your enlistment.

There may be a chance I'll see you down at Jackson, I ship the 10th.

Sounds like you two might be in the same Reception Bn.

Congrats on the contract & welcome to the site & to the Army! Where is your AIT going to be? My guess - Gordon or Huachuca.

Get yourself physically prepared for BCT. It'll be much easier.

Welcome to AF's. We have plenty of "Action Jackson" alumni here. Shoot, you're going to love it. I know Soldier's who jumped into service at 36 and 37 years old and never missed a beat. Get yourself squared away in you're PT Training and get you're shipping packing slip and personal folder in order. You're good to go.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the welcome and it's good to be here. No doubt on the PT, my goal is to get as close to maxing out my 2-2-2 before I report.

After BCT I know I head to DLI in Cali, but won't know for how long until midway through basic more than likely. Could be for up to a year depending the language I'm put into. Then it's off to Goodfellow to prove I know what I'm doing.

Good to know FNL, I'm excited, eager and ready to jump in. I'm sure these five years will fly by, and I'm going to make the best of every opportunity.

I enlisted a 40 year old into the Infantry, he made it and is currently already at his duty station.

Linguist eh? That is a good MOS and will definitely set you up for success for the rest of your life. 29 really isnt all that old to be enlisting these days. Like MP said there are lots of people who are enlisting well into their 30s and even later. Once you get settled in you will enjoy Jackson.

My son just returned from Ft. Dix, A#1Mom. He didn't have any time to do any exploring. He was taking an NCO course there & even had classes on Sundays although they got out "earlier" - 1500 instead of 1700.
