    Question What Happens after AIT?

This might be a stupid question, but I just wanted to know for sure. What exactly happens after graduating the AIT portion? Are you sent to your next duty station immediately or do you have to wait for an opening like any other civilian position? Are you guaranteed a job immediately upon graduating AIT? How does it work?
Thanks for answering, I know it may be a headache to answer, sorry and thank you for the input!

Once you finish AIT you are sent to your first duty assignment, usually you will have time to take leave enroute to your assignment. Or you could also be sent for more training, like Airborne School. However usually that will only happen if it was either in your contract or you are being sent to an Airborne unit. There really is no waiting for an opening. The Army is going to find something to do with you.

NOT a stupid question, Tiger! Although you won't be able to see it, Army G-1 (personnel) has a huge database of every Soldier in the Army and knows who is graduating AIT, when, and what positions are open or will open all across the Army for that Soldier's MOS, clearance, and other factors. Towards the end of AIT you'll find out where you're scheduled to go - though they normally build in a bit of extra time for you to take leave if you want.

    Good luck!

You will get orders to your first duty station (active duty) and go on leave (vacation) to go back home for a few days before going to your duty station. If Reserves, then you go back home and report to your local unit.

    Question

Thanks for the response! I really appreciate all the information you give out on all the forums. I know I should have asked my recruiter but with all the work in getting more people to join, they don't usually have the time to answer all my questions. If an MOS requires a TS Clearance, how long do they normally take to notify you of acceptance or vise versa? Thanks!

when my roommate at AIT graduated, he was put on "hold-over status" for 3 weeks. it basically means that you don't have orders so you can't go any where. it happened to a few people at Aberdeen Proving Grounds before it moved to Ft. Lee. i don't know about other places. maybe it has even changed for the company i was in. lol

just thought i'd give a heads up. it was only about like 5% that it happened to so i wouldn't be too worried.

After AIT, I tried to go to the post BK and enjoy a burger but was told to get my butt on a Greyhound to take me to the Airport. I remember wearing the C*nt Cap in my bravos.

Your other questions tell me that you are not an armytiger but a civiliantiger.

You can take leave before reporting to your next duty assignment. Also, before graduating AIT, you will know your orders on where you going to be assigned. So your job is guaranteed before you ship.

Hehehe - that's the 'overseas' or 'garrison' cap in proper speak Chief, dontchaknow Not that any of these young 'uns will remember that in a couple of years.

It wasn't until recently that I saw a Sailor in their new uniform - with a blue garrison carp. It figures they would pick it up just as we went to the beret...
