Thread: Prior Service Options

You have several options if you want to re-enter.

1) As Prior Service you will be limitted to the jobs the Army has to offer, most if not all being offered to males is Infantry, when you are at the MEPS it may change. Your recruiter cannot offer you a job, he can merely state facts that are written in "current policy" or what he has seen while sending PS Applicants to the MEPS. Of course the Army loves to save $ and since you are already trained...... you know the rest of the story.

2.) Apply for the Army Reserve Active Guard and Reserve Program. (AGR) You work in USAR and or multi componet units and are considered AD for pay, benefits and retirement

3.) Join the USAR for a different MOS (USAR does not have Infantry MOS's) spend a year or two in a USAR unit and then ask for a conditional release to go active duty in the new MOS.

^^ The AG does not reasign you as on active duty. The 81st RRC does have MP units however the 81st RRC HQ has moved from Birmingham, AL to Fort Jackson, SC.

You can feel free to ask a local USAR recruiter, while I was a recruiter in Alabama I did recruit a couple PS from Atlanta just because of my reputation.

I will PM you a name and number of a Station Commander that is also a USAR Recruiter, maybe he can tell you the 81st RRC MP units. You can also google 81st RRC and then search their units. A good recruiter can get you slotted in a unit prior to going to MEPS, that way it takes all the guess work out, you know exactly your paragraph, possition and LIN number.
