Default The first 30 days in a new unit

I am not in the Army, yet but wanted to know what entails in the first 30 days of a new member in an army unit? Is he or she supposed to figure things out as they go or is it different for every command? Do they get a sponsor , i.e someone as a mentor or fellow member to show them around and teach them the new ropes? does it differ for every rank? For example is a SSG left to fend for him or herself in a new Army unit since they have been in longer compared to a PFC?

Overseas a sponsor is mandatory. But I've never received one. Well the first week or two is in-processing. During that time you should meet your Platoon, 1st Sergeant, and CO. You'll be hooked up with a battle buddy or a 1st line who will take you around and help you out. SSG's generally know what they're doing already so they don't need much guidance.

Any new Soldier has a place in the Chain of Command - someone to answer to, and if he or she is in a leadership slot, Soldiers to lead. You are never left on your own.
