Default The Hardest Thing to Decide

Im a high school graduate, with some college credits (less than 20). After trying life my way through real estate, Ive realized in order to make and have stability you need a true skill and experience. Ive scored 86 on my Est.
    I am joining the military
    1. to save money for the future
    2. to get an AA atleast after a 4 year enlistment.
(((3.))) and most importantly the reason for joining is to have a skill and AA to take back to the civilian world and have the ability to make more than 60k

So, The Hardest Thing to Decide--WHAT JOB??
So far, Ive thought about 15Q( Air traffic controller operator), 42A (Human Resources Specialist)
    Questions:
    1. Being a 15Q or 42A after 4 years of enlistment is it possible to get either of these jobs in the civilian world with good pay, why or why not?
    2. Are there any other positions within the army that are highly demanded in the civilian world that pay very well and are stable?
    3. And what jobs in the army would you consider HighEnd?

Thank you for any suggestions because I really need help deciding the course to take my life on.

anything to do with computers is always in high demand.. even with the economy in a slump.. as far as air traffic controllers i have no idea but i would assume that the position is somewhat limited depending on where you live.. human resources you can pretty much do anything with that... pretty much any job that isn't to specialized in the business world.. not sure how many high end jobs there are when it comes to the military but something in the intelligence area would probably be good

brycegee, the Army provides training but not in the sense that we are a training ground in x many jobs for civilian life. That is why I feel your idea of the Army may be out of whack. After you enlist, the needs of the Army come first, your personal desires second. That fact has disappointed many applicants. Right now, due to the low economy, the Military has applicants galore, many with college & clean records. Thus, there is great competition for jobs with a high potential in civilian life (you call them High End and stable). Assuming that you get the training that you desire, it will seldom qualify you for the civilian equivalent because of the different parameters. Additional training and schooling is almost always demanded. Also, keep in mind that your service obligation is a total of 8 years. If you leave early, the remainder is an obligation in the inactive reserve & subject to recall.

Almost any job you do in the military will be a benefit to you when applying for a civilian sector possition later on. The reasoning you are trying to use may be a bit obscurred. If you select a military job based on "what you think will turn out to be a comparrable and high end job" in the civillian sector could be a bad idea. What if you dont like it? What if the job market shifts gears and the job you thought would be a good idea in the future is no longer in demand?

The best thing to do is select a job that you will like, feel challenging and while in the Army try to improve your civilian skills through college.

The Army will provide you with many valuable assets such as pride, courage, and your job skills. You will get an ARTS transcript while you are exiting the military or at anytime you want one. The ARTS transcripts will tell you which skills you aquired during your time will correspond to the civillian sector as well as inform you on college credits that are awarded for your training.

You could have the best Army job in the world and that job would correspond to a "high end" job you are asking about, however you have to sell yourself to the employer. If you do not know how to market yourself it doesnt matter what kind of skills you have.

For example I graduated from High School and joined the USMC and was a Ground Pounder/ Supply Person. I took about 15 credit hours of college while in the USMC for 11 years. I then landed a $120K job in my 2 years in between the USMC and the Army. For me the retirement was more important than the $ and I took a drastic paycut to go back into the military. However instead of working 20-30 more years for retirement I only had to work a max of 9 more years. At my job interview I beat out people that had college degrees and had worked in the industry for a while. Why? because I was considered dependable, very trainable, trustworthy and loyal.
