Default chapter 9 re-3 reenlist question

I was released from active duty in January 1992. I was released due to an alcohol rehab failure, basically caused by family issues. I have a reup code of re-3. Those family and alcohol issues are no longer a problem (new wife of 14 years). I desperately want to reenlist. I am 44 years old now and I live 100 miles from the nearest recruiter. I had an MOS of 91C and had served 9 years. I would like to know if anyone else has had this issue and was able to reup. Also, am I too old.

^^ How old are you now? How many years did you serve on Active Duty? There are a couple possibilities.

RE-3 = Requires a waiver also your SPD code will factor into this waiver

Age- No older than 42 and must be abloe to complete 20 years AFS at the age of 62.

You will lose at least one paygrade since you have been out for a while.

I just reread and saw your age. Just remember this- almost everything is waiverable. Also if not AD you may be able to get a waiver for the USAR and then move on to the AGR program. That is something to look into.

I got a guy waivered that was 48 while I was a recruiter, so anything is possible.

According to your info you would be 55 when you reach your 20 AFS, thats a plus.

Thank you for the quick reply. I spent 8 1/2 years Active Duty. I started as a combat medic and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. What is AGR program? Is the medical field still a difficult retention job?

^^ NO or AIT if he goes back to his field. If you have ever been to Army or USMC BT and completed AIT or MOS school then you do not have to go to BT again. Only former USN, USAF have to go through Army BT.

Actually USN and USAF do not go to Army basic training they go to the Warrior Transition Course (WTC) just like prior Service Army personnel do, he would more than likely have to do AIT again since it has been so long and his credentials would be expired (medical field he was in right?)

Also, that failure to pass the alcohol rehab might be a problem and not everything is waiverable, specially right now and specially for prior service.

^^ You are correct. The WTC replaced the requirement to attend BT for those that did not attend Army or USMC BT. The WTC is new to me. I just re-read AR601-210 to retrain my brain. Paragraph 3-19 pertains to the subject.

I already covered the RE- part above.

    Thanks for the knowledge.
