DWI is not a disqualifier from being a 68W per se. his recruiter may need to look on the NREMT Website and even ATRRS to see the prerequisite
and requirements of the MOS itself for IET soldiers.
i'm a 68W40... NREMT is a requirement of all 68W's (aka 91B, 91W and now 68W) from PVT/E1 to SFC/E7.
i am not going to speculate, but the recruiter(s) know what they are working with vs. waivers vs. number's game and the career counselors should also know the pre-requisites for each 68-series MOS. -i.e. does he need a security clearance? minimum ASVAB / line scores? does he need color vision? ect... also, the disqualification criteria??? (i.e. can't register with NREMT because you have a felony *** for example, not an actual reason)....
EDIT: i know a 1st DWI is typically NOT a felony is most states.... so it shouldn't be a big deal. the NREMT specifically states what would disqualify someone from registering or re-registering with NREMT.
NREMT = National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. it is a Dept of Transportation mandate and the minimum standard of care of all Combat Medics.
HOOAH!
good luck.

Actually, SFC, DWI is a disqualifier from getting 68W, I understand where you are coming from but if you are not in recruiting, then you honestly do not know what the standards for JOINING with that MOS are.

look at the form, it's asking for felonies.

i was a 68W transition and sustainment coordinator for three years. i also sit on a committee for these issues as well.
unless you have some inside Recruiting and Retention Information, my statements stand. i have been out of that practice for almost 2 years. again, when dealing with weekend warriors and medics with expired certifications and legal issues, i looked for the information. plus the propaganda that AMEDD pushes out.
to my knowledge, a 1st time DWI is NOT a Felony in any of the states and territories. what he may have is NOT enough time has lapsed since his conviction of the misdemeanor (DWI) or he's been convicted of a Felony DWI (subsequent conviction or repeat DWI offender), which would mean he's probably permanently disqualified from joining anyway.
i worked alongside the Rec and Ret NCOs so i learned where to find the info. along with the 611-21
Edit: is the Army? Army Guard and Army Reserve over strength on 68W's? i'll have my training NCO check on slots available in the morning.![]()
I can tell you one thing about 68W, its hard to get one day and easy the next, we had one guy enlist for it and MEPS had to call all the way to the ROC and then that guy had to make phone calls to make it happen. About a week later we have a kid go up to MEPS and say "i want 68W" and got it without having to do anything it just came up, LOL.
Now, I am not going to have this turn into an argument, I understand where you are coming from and that you at one point or another dealt with finding qualifications and slots for 68W but RIGHT NOW, if you have a DWI or any charge to do with violance, you cannot get 68W, we had a kid that had a "fighting in school" charge as a teenager, he did not qualify for it. You can look at 611-21 and talk to retention NCOs all day but, out here in recruiting is a completely different animal, there is stuff that we have to go by that is not even on any regulation or policy, just an email stating "this is how it works as of today" kind of thing, its crazy.
You're not entirely correct on DWIs. In many states, the circumstances of the crime dictate whether it's a gross misdemeanor or a felony. BAC, if there was an accident or injuries involved, a pursuit, etc. Number of priors is only one factor of several.
