    Unhappy DD214 Question(s)

Well, I have applied to receive a copy of my DD214 through the Navy some time ago. I am trying to find my RE and SPN codes for obvious reasons. However, I have not been able to secure the documents. I was in the DEP for the Navy, went through boot and part of my A-School, and in an ignorant and selfish move, I ended up with an OTH discharge. There was no court martial, no hearing, just sign these papers and you are good to go. Typically they mail you a copy of your undeleted DD214, I, however was never mailed it, or any of the other paperwork you would receive. Any idea's guys?

Hope you read the book first. Wife says it was waaaaay better. As far as the DD214, I have gone to VA, and they say I do no exist in their system. I contacted

    Navy Personnel Command
    PERS 312D1
    5720 Integrity Drive
    Millington, TN 38055-3120
    901-874-4885

to request the hard copy of the undeleted and have yet to receive it. I also, separately requested the CD of the docs. I suppose I could write my congressman or senator and see if they could get it expedited, but I am still uncertain as to why I have been stymied thus far. FYI, if you haven't read anything by him yet, and you like thrillers, try Vince Flynn, awesome writer.

Call the place that you were separated from and explain the situation. How long ago was this?

    Movie is ok thus far.

so where are the signed papers? I know a couple of people that were discharged with OTH and a General under Honorable from the Army and the Marine Corps and they got their DD214 when they left the post/base.

I got a package when I let that had my Vision/ASVAB/Stationing/Schooling complete, and a deleted DD-214. It was X'd out on darn near everything. But it does not contain the RE or SPN codes... sadly. Now that I am an adult, with a better understanding about the world around me, and this extreme sense of patriotism, I'd appeal to either complete my contract, serve brig time, re-enlist in another branch.... The sense of failure for not just myself, but my country is more nagging than my pregnant wife....and i dont know if you have had one of those, but believe me......

Unfortunately with an OTH you might not be able to enlist in the Army at this time. The Recruiting Command is getting plenty of recruits that are totally clean. Normally you might be able to get a waiver but there are few being granted now. Even prior service people are having a hard time getting in.

Check with an Army Recruiter in any event. Possibly he could expedite matters.

You might not be considered prior service for benefit purposes if you served less than 179 days. But if you served even one day you're considered prior service for recruiting purposes. I'm not all too sure if a person serving less than 179 days even gets a complete DD 214. The one that you got with everything Xed out makes sense now. Since a DD 214 is required to prove service to receive benefits that also makes sense to me that you have an incomplete one. That's something that bears checking out, though. I could be wrong.

Get with a Recruiter. You have nothing to lose.

OTH is not acceptable at all. You have to have at least a general under honorable. I just wanted you to ensure that you could get your DD214 just in case you didnt get the OTH as stated.
