Thread: Update.

    Default Update.

Hey guys, haven't been on here in quite a while so figured I'd let you know how things are shaking out with my joining the army. My BP was taken again by my doctor and it was perfect (104/82), seemed it was just too much sodium in my diet. Took the ASVAB (with the Navy) and got a 98. Talked to the Army recruiter for the first time today and he told me that they may be able to get an Option 40 Contract open before I sign but if they couldn't then I could always sign for one of the many open 11x with an Airborne option. He's coming by tomorrow so I can sign a release for him to get my ASVAB score from MEPS. Hoping everything continues to go well and thanks for all of the help you guys have been able to give me

Sounds good, James. Salt is definitely a good tasting silent killer. We use way to much of it. I myself am on a low sodium diet & even lightly salted or non-salted food can have more sodium in the preservatives than what a person can safely consume over a long period of time.

Make sure that you get exactly what you want in your contract. Many times you'll be told that you can volunteer for Airborne School or the Rangers in OSUT. That might be so but if you have your heart set on one or the other get it in writing to be sure. Then it's all up to you to pass the courses. An Option 40 automatically gets you Airborne School.

Yes it definitely is MSG. My recruiter gave me a call after he got my scores and was calling around (I assume MEPS) and that there were absolutely 0 Option 40's and also that there weren't even any Option 4's (which at this point I am no longer willing to settle for). So I told him to keep checking and to keep me updated. If things keep going this way I'm thinking I may go down to MEPS with him for the physical and "make" the counselors get me the contract I want.

You cant "make the counselors get you the contract you want, if its not available its not available and if you "make" them get you something that its not there they will MAKE YOU get out of their office and talk to the next guy....

If you are a recruiter's dream then play hard to get but do not make demands. You will lose lol. Also, if you are going into a combat MOS, you might get the opportunity to apply for RIP later on.

Be that is it may the guys on socnet avidly say that there is never a circumstance where there are absolutely no available Option 40's and that if you do certain things they generally will "make" the Option 40 contract appear :P Also according to AR.com they just (at the end of February) released like 110 11x Option 40 contracts for high school seniors, I personally find it hard to believe that they had all been used up halfway through March, but I could definitely be wrong. And besides the point entirely, I can wait for them to put out more contracts and have no problem doing it. I would much rather wait to sign the contract that I want rather than get pushed into a contract I don't want by my recruiter.

Youve answered your own.question, wait.for.the Opt. 40.... also, make sure your recruiter is gonna support you on it, if he bawks at it..find one whom you can contact for updates etc...
