    Default joining army

ok i have always wanted to join the army and finally went and took the asvab. It turns out i didnt do so well and need to up the score. I got a 28 on the afqt score and a 99 for my st score. i need at least a 31 for the afqt and a 105 for my st score to be a mp(military police) so my army counsler says... I have never been too great of a test taker but thought i was going to do well since i scored a 55 on my practice test my recuiter gave me. I am set to leave for basic training in nov if all gos well. What im asking is am i close to passing or should i wait another month and study so i dont make a wasted 2 day trip and 8 hr ride there and back?

i did very well on my physical but i need glasses i guess.

Well first of all welcome to the forums.

yes you were pretty close to passing, so my suggestion is take a few more practice asvab that they have online at military.com to get the jists of taking the test, see what your weaknesses are and brush them up a little. Then you should definitely be good to go. Hope all goes well for you.

It sounds like you took the computerized ASVAB, is that true? If so you need to ask your recruiter to get you to a written ASVAB site in 30 days. From now until then you need to study. You will be suprised at the difference between the two tests.

Also if you score 3 points lower than needed for the ST "sometimes" the MEPS Guidance Counsellor can get you an ST Waiver (takes them only a few minutes and nothing extra for you or the recruiter). The ST waiver is not guaranteed, if the Army is not granting them you would have to pick another MOS.

To get your ASVAB score up I suguest you go attend Free GED Classes in your area. Usually cities have some sort of program you just have to get up and get at it. Just dont mention you graduated from high school. You should be GTG in 30 days.

    Good luck.

Multiple Practice ASVABS do nothing because normally the person will memorize the answers.

Best for the OP to enroll in a Free GED program and get a real "learn" on.

If the OP got a 29 AFQT they are weak in all areas and need to brush up on all of them.

yes i took the computerized asvab and have been doing different practice asvabs. thanks to those who commented and i will try some mentioned methods.

i also went to myteacher.com and they have a great method for studying and learning whats needed for passing the asvab.

also on army.com theres a section that mentioned military police only need a 95 on the st section of the test and my counsler told me i needed a 105 does that make any sense?

With the ST, the Army can always raise and lower the standards. get your study on and after your 30 day wait try the written ASVAB.

Also the waiting period is different if you have taken the ASVAB prior to the last one. Just depends on how many times and when you took it.

^^ Yep, if I was you I would ensure I take the written test, even if you have to go somewhere else like a relatives house. If you do it this way the recruiter can just do a SPIFF Change to get your scores. (They probably do not have to do this with the new system)

There are only a few places that do not offer the written test, normally they are to applicants who reside really close to a MEPS.
