It seems like it was just yesterday when he was in the process of enlistment & now he has a deployment under the belt. They grow up as fast as time flies.

Yes, they do grew up fast! He has really matured alot! And I'm soooooo very proud of him. By the way this was my son's 2nd deployed; the first was to Iraq back in 2007-2008. I was a member of the old site back then. Army.com/Forums I beleive?! I still have the same member ID.

Edit I meant that I am going downrange and hope your son never has to deploy again but since he is ETSing, I wish him the best.

Thanks Chief! My son is regular Army stationed out of Ft. Drum. This was his 2nd deployment; the first was to Iraq with the 3rd ID out of Ft. Stewart - he was gone 15 mths then; this one out of Drum was exactly 12 mths almost to the day! My son will ETS out the begining of this December & will be inactive Army reserve for about 2 yrs. ( I think)? He's going to go to school a feww months after he gets out. So one of yours is re-deploying soon? I look foward to the day that he & all our soldiers do! Till then, take care!

How soon, Chief? You just got back & now you're going again. So much for dwell time. I was under the impression that dwell time was in effect regardless if you changed units. When my son transitioned from Regular Army to Reserve he had 2 years guaranteed not to be deployed regardless if his unit was going. He would have been Rear D. Of course he could always volunteer to go if he wanted to & he said he would. The 2 years is up anyhow & him with 6 more to go. His reenlistment becomes effective in January. If he doesn't get to the Milwaukee Police Academy son (budget constraints prohibited an Academy class this year) he's even thinking of going back to the 3rd Ranger Batt. Even though there's that restriction that prior service has to go in as 18X he's in contact with 3rd Batt higher-ups & they said they'd make sure he comes back there regardless. They would meet him wherever he's sent, probably SFAS, & "kidnap" him. Of course he's also thinking of going to SF this time around if he decides to back in. He knows a few Recruiters (also former 3rd Batt Rangers) & they said they'd have no problem greasing the ways.
