Thanks for sharing Chief.. I agree with the sentiments in the Article, it will be an enormous undertaking indeed... The conventional war is indeed over... and conventional forces have gone above and beyond to prop up the catastrophic problems present in the political and geo political areas of Afghanistan... Security issues are very asymmetrical now and it would be unfair to expect conventional forces to continue in such an arena which has being a success on balance given battles won, and how the Talibans tactics have evolved. They have forced the Taliban into asymmetrical warfare which is progress... all that is needed now is for the corruption and the dangerous weakness in Afghan politics to be replaced by a driven power that supports a new and modern (relatively speaking) Afghanistan. Only then can the Afghans take real advantage of the amazing opportunity the Allies have given them and paid for in lives and $$$.

Thanks for sharing Chief... It always made sense that the exit strategy was going to be fraught with problems... Logistics in such an environment was always going to be a nightmare!!... With that foresight, the Logistics guys would have had plenty of time to plan for it, making the exit problematic but relatively doable at the same time.. LOL... Nothing says I value your money, aid and support that keeps me in power like a good shakedown!!.. lol.. Politics!!.. Urgghhh!!..

Interesting article Chief, thanks for sharing.. Its hard to know numbers... Karzai has made it a very political subject but knows if the numbers get too low too quick, he will loose his country and possibly his head to the Taliban... 2014 drawdown for me is all about politics and that is what we see playing out here.. In the US, you would swear every single man is coming home and there will be nothing but the kitchen sink left in Afghanistan... In Afghanistan, Karzai is using this to bolster his credibility as outgoing president by being awkward and a small time jerk in his contrary behaviour leaving the impression that the US is leaving with his foot up their ass... its a box politic that should change when the little bald one retires from his presidency.. The new guy will have to deal with the continued presence there..
