Meade E-3 pleads guilty in sex trafficking case

    By Joe Gould

    jgould@militarytimes.com

A Fort Meade, Md., private first class recruited prostitutes on Craigslist, MySpace and YouTube, pumped them with drugs and pimped them out of his apartment near the post, according to federal prosecutors.

Pfc. Craig Corey II, 23, of Millersville, Md., transported a 16-year-old from Ohio in April 2009, put provocative photographs of her on Craigslist and offered her for sex under the name “Vanilla,” according to charging documents.

Corey agreed to plead guilty in December. His plea was announced April 1 by U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Army Criminal Investigation Command and local law enforcement agencies.

Corey and his associates recruited the teen and other women from Ohio, New York and Virginia, and controlled them with drugs and violence, prosecutors said.

According to court papers, Corey and the others spent some of their money on Ecstasy, marijuana, Xanax, Percocet and BZP, a stimulant with effects similar to amphetamines,. Corey used the drugs, sold them and gave them to the women, they said.

Two of Corey’s partners, Jacob Tyler and Robert Harris, carried guns in the apartment, and when two women refused to give their earnings to Corey’s crew, they were beaten, according to charging documents.

Corey, believed to be the only soldier in the group, spent his percentage of the prostitution earnings on electronics, clothes and car accessories.

Tyler, 23, of Chillicothe, Ohio, pleaded guilty on March 10 to his participation in the operation of the sex and drug trafficking business. Harris, aka “Little Rob,” 21, and Richard Johnson, aka “Little Richy,” 23, both of Chillicothe, pleaded guilty to similar charges.

All three are scheduled for sentencing on April 30.

Corey faces sentencing April 28 on sex trafficking of a minor; distributing drugs; enticement to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution; interstate transportation for prostitution; conspiracy to prostitute; and two counts of sex trafficking by force.

The charges against Corey could mean life in prison.

Well, that's barbaric. Glad to see humanity has only improved in the thousands of years we've had to ponder the nuances of right and wrong.

Human nature never changes. The Soldier today is the same as the Centurion with a spear - just with better technology.

Good point Doc, the behavours of men from the macro change little with the ages... stories about the agressors and the defenders, the tyrannical and the free.... these tales go back to the Ancient world....

I almost got into trouble again over honor..A few years ago. A newbie in our unit with about a year in went around our MSG's back and started bad mouthing him..I told the newbie if he couldn't keep his pie hole shut or at least say it to Tops face..I was going to knock him out. My pop said, back off and change lanes. It wasn't worth getting a 15 over it..I said, ok pop..One night we we're all out at our local hangout around the block from our unit. My chalk was sitting at a few tables when I walked in. My MSG and his wife walked in and said hello and said, Night be cool. Well I took advantage of the moment. I took off my watch and dog tags threw them into a dish and told my chalk to watch my six..

I walked over to the newbie and said, Time to answer for you're ways..The Newbie stood up and I knocked him clean out. I called out his rudy poo friends too. I walked back to my table and went about my business..My MSG was ready to leave and stopped by..I said, Sorry Top, you told me to be cool. Top, looked at me and said, "that was cool" his wife smiled at me and said, goodnite Night..My chalk was pumped. It's about honor and respect.

    Night

Your Top was right Night, it was cool!!... Good job!!... Sometimes asshats need some further education before they "get it"... Just sit rep the scene in your head and if think you will be siting before an Art 15 hearing as a result, bring it to Top and let him deal with it...... that is his job... Remember the old rule "do it right, do it well and dont get caught!".... bars can be great places to land in the bed of a beautiful women, or a cell bed at the local police station... LOL...

Your right Night, newbies should never knock their NCO cadre, cos they are their leaders, the guys whom will get them through and you can always count on... For all privates who think they are the shit remember whos house you are in before shooting your mouth off.. The NCOs allow you into their house, give you their knowledge and will take more hits for you then you will ever know, so best think about showing that respect they have earned... As for the new bad NCOs, well you will find the good ones are more in number and will make that right and the Officer cadre will be duly informed...
