Meade E-3 pleads guilty in sex trafficking case

A Fort Meade, Md., private first class recruited prostitutes on Craigslist, MySpace and YouTube, pumped them with drugs and pimped them out of his apartment near the post, according to federal prosecutors.
Pfc. Craig Corey II, 23, of Millersville, Md., transported a 16-year-old from Ohio in April 2009, put provocative photographs of her on Craigslist and offered her for sex under the name “Vanilla,” according to charging documents.
Corey agreed to plead guilty in December. His plea was announced April 1 by U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Army Criminal Investigation Command and local law enforcement agencies.
Corey and his associates recruited the teen and other women from Ohio, New York and Virginia, and controlled them with drugs and violence, prosecutors said.
According to court papers, Corey and the others spent some of their money on Ecstasy, marijuana, Xanax, Percocet and BZP, a stimulant with effects similar to amphetamines,. Corey used the drugs, sold them and gave them to the women, they said.
Two of Corey’s partners, Jacob Tyler and Robert Harris, carried guns in the apartment, and when two women refused to give their earnings to Corey’s crew, they were beaten, according to charging documents.
Corey, believed to be the only soldier in the group, spent his percentage of the prostitution earnings on electronics, clothes and car accessories.
Tyler, 23, of Chillicothe, Ohio, pleaded guilty on March 10 to his participation in the operation of the sex and drug trafficking business. Harris, aka “Little Rob,” 21, and Richard Johnson, aka “Little Richy,” 23, both of Chillicothe, pleaded guilty to similar charges.
All three are scheduled for sentencing on April 30.
Corey faces sentencing April 28 on sex trafficking of a minor; distributing drugs; enticement to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution; interstate transportation for prostitution; conspiracy to prostitute; and two counts of sex trafficking by force.
The charges against Corey could mean life in prison.
