See how important that 12 miler is and how you have to train at the level to pass that event. Yes, you have six months to knock out that phase and I suggest you focus on it so you can join the club of us Air Assault badge wearers lol

Yea, you really can't underestimate the 12 mile ruck march. I thought I was good to go doing some 6 miles where I live and the 12 mile prior to the school but apparently I wasn't. All in all the ruck march dropped about 10 people from the course for various reasons, cramps, not meeting time, heat casualty etc. One person passed out and had a core temperature of 107F, they had to be MEDEVACED. I'm glad I got through phases 1-3 though and I feel lucky and blessed to have had the opportunity to go, I met a lot of good people and had a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back over the holiday break or even to Ft. Bliss and not have to travel at all. Thank you all for your help though

That's unfortunate. You'll go back and conquer it. My roommate at Campbell had a hard time passing her road march, it took her a few tries but she finally got it.

Good luck, stay motivated and work hard.

Can anyone tell me the upcoming Air Assault school dates for Ft. Hood? Apparently the next scheduled course at Ft. Bliss is in May 2013 (outside my 6 mo. limit) I have the list of FY2012 course dates at Ft. Campbell, and I'm looking at Camp Swift and Ft. Hood as they are a lot closer. Thanks

Does that have to be performed at an actual Air Assault School or can an NCO who is AA qualified (or a former AA Instructor) who can score you at any other post? It seems to me that I had been a scorer for something or another for a school that was at a different location several times. It wasn't for AA qualification but I think it was some sort of PT test that a Soldier had to make up to graduate.

My drop slip says I have 6 months from the original course start date to re-insert and complete the 12 mile ruck march at any accredited Air Assault school. I went to my school yesterday and the person who handles all the schools is still on vacation SMH -_-

He has to show up at the AA school and complete the actual phase/event he failed.

Here is the Fort Campbell one. Call and ask

Thanks Chief, I'll give them a call. The last FY 2012 class start date is on 14 Sept. making my report date 26 Sept. I talked to a SGM over at Ft. Hood and he gave me the AAS OPS # to call, so I'm going to call them to find out the FY12 and 13 class schedule. Out of curiosity what is the 12mi. ruck march route like for anyone that's done AAS at Ft. Hood?

I probably sound like a broken record for AASLT at this point; here's an update for my situation:

I contacted Ft. Hood some months ago, unfortunately all of the subsequent AASLT classes were during school for me and I couldn't make the time to drive out there. My unit coordinates and sends their Soldiers attempting AASLT to Camp Swift, however the POC for training schools at my unit wasn't sure if he could get me in as I'm coded as a Cadet and not an officer/enlisted soldier in the unit, or something like that. I've been working on my ruck march but not nearly as much as I would like or probably need to due to school/work-loads. I did the Ranger Challenge this year for my ROTC BN, not like it compares in any way to a 12 mi., but I'd like to work on the ruck march to try to get it up to standard.

On the flip side Every spring semester, around February (at least for the last two years that I've seen) my ROTC BN has sent ~2 cadets to the AASLT course here at Ft. Bliss. I had preferred to attend AASLT again to complete the 12 mi. ruck march here instead of having to travel on my own dime but the course dates did not jive with the 6 months I had to repeat the ruck march. My original course start date at Ft. Campbell was July 11, 2012 making the 6 month cut-off time January 11, 2013. My ROTC BN CDR approached me and asked if I'd be interested in trying to complete the ruck march to get the badge and suggested that I might get an extension for the 6 month completion time. Before I get all pumped up at a possibility for getting this thing done, is this even a possibility? I know that soldiers who deploy are granted an exemption for the 6 month grace period (at least at Ft. Campbell) would this be a possibility for me as a cadet? The potential extension I'd be asking for would only be around a month or so.

I called the OPS desk at Ft. Campbell today and the cadre is in some sort of training/off for the break of training during the exodus/holiday break. I'll keep trying on that end. I'm just trying to find out if it's worth a shot though; if it's not it's completely understandable, 6 months is a long time to get our ass in gear to get your ruck march up to standard and to coordinate for school, I guess I dropped the ball on my part. I'll own up to that. I plan on getting someone to help me out in terms of the ruck march, so that I'm training smarter not harder. If I can't get an extension, I might just try for the slot or just go ahead and try to be a walk-on for the next Ft. Bliss AASLT course. Anyways, thanks for any help/info you guys can hook me up with.
